Barfield had surgery on his left middle finger June 17. In 13 games rehabbing at Akron and Buffalo, he hit .204 (9-for-44) with two RBI. He had pop in his bat, but his disappointing past two years has him on a track to be a reserve in the majors. That is his likely role behind Asdrubal Cabrera down the stretch. Consider him a reserve for the deepest of AL-only leagues at this point.
